PostDateIconWednesday, 03 February 2010 10:08 | PostAuthorIconWritten by SSANZ | PDF | Print | E-mail

SSANZ comment – same old stories – we know better than you do, control criminals by restricting legal gun ownership, but with a new Asian twist – make it more difficult so you have to bribe someone to get a licence.

In the land of Mahatma Gandhi, Indian gun owners are coming out of the shadows for the first time to mobilize, U.S.-style, against proposed new curbs on bearing arms.

Facts not myths

In the last few months we have seen several press articles about firearms. Much of what has been published is either inaccurate or incorrect. We can’t expect newspapers to be experts on what is not particularly simple stuff, but their sources should know better.

What caliber Gun for What

SMALL GAME:
The rim fire rifle is ideal for small game from squirrels to cottontail rabbits. If you plan to use a rifle on these game animals you would be well equipped with rifles in the .17HMR, .22 long rifle, and .22 magnum calibers.
The .22 rifle is good out to 75 years on small game, while the .17HMR distances out to past 125 yards on small game.
Let us not overlook shotguns from the .410 right on up to the 12 gauge for small game. My general shotgun load is a low brass #6 shot through #5 is not out of line.
